Many people (including me) place money as their primary goal. I remember many of my peers setting goals like “first 1000$ USD before 20 (20 years old)”, “first 2000$ USD before 23”, and so on. I am not really fond of this idea… There seems to be an intense desire to accumulate wealth in the early stages of a career. I, just like every other ordinary young man, was caught up in the inferiority complex triggered by this phenomenon.
However, I remember hearing advice from an old man who said that money should not be your goal. In life, your goal should be to focus on doing your best in your field. If you do your best, money will comes eventually. This perspective allows me to shift my focus toward what trully matter in life. Though, the journey often feels numbing. Striving to mastering something like math is as climbing the endless wall, yet the “reward” (e.g. money, good grade, etc) does not always seem to come immediately. Moreover, there is no guarantee that this devoted hard work will eventually pay off.
